{Learning Photoshop and Being Awful at It}

My graphic-designer husband, Nate, is trying to teach me Photoshop (“trying” being the operative word here), and he’s having a hard time because I am: (1) stubborn, (2) overly detailed, and (3) myself. Regardless, I thought I would share my test run with you all! This should not be a reflection of my design sensibilities: It was merely me practicing resizing pictures, inserting graphics, organizing layers, and using brushes. So, please don’t be judgy. If you know me personally, you understand just how vulnerable I’m being right now.

So there it is! In all its terrible glory! The individual elements are neat-o, but my design is atrocious, I know. You can find my image sources in previous posts {here} and {here}, but the top two are from the decor8 feature by Leslie called Color Me Pretty, and the bottom one was found on Pinterest. All of the other graphic details were super-awesome free downloads from {Pugly Pixel}. Do you know any cool tips and tricks I should know about using Photoshop? I’d love to learn, and I’m sure Nate would appreciate the help! Have a good weekend, bloggy friends!

Balloons!

I have recently found myself loving balloons. I did not plan to revert to childhood like this, but it snuck up on me! Of course, I have to blame this on someone, and I choose (1) A Subtle Revelry (featuring The Red Balloon Photography), (2) The Red Balloon Photography–they have so many reasons on their website to blame them that I had to do it twice, (3) Kate Spade, and (4) sfgirlbybay (featuring Amber Karnes).

Here are some of the incredible images they have featured and created lately. I hope you enjoy them!

Aren’t they all lovely? They all make me so excited for warm, breezy days! What images do you associate with Spring and Summer days?

The Joy of Pink!

I’m BACK! After a massive (non)pre-planned hiatus (let’s not talk about how it was an epic New Year’s Resolution failure), I have returned to share some PINK flowers with you! In the spirit of Spring and the celebration of decor8’s Color Me Pretty weekly feature by Leslie, I have decided to share with you, dear readers, the beauty that is super girly pink. Let it be known that I’ve never really been much for pink until now. For some reason, I’ve been craving it. Like, when I see it I just want to bite into it, you know? (Rest assured, I will never bite a flower unless it’s broccoli.)

So excellent. They are all the genius of Leslie from decor8’s Color Me Pretty weekly feature, except for the last, which I found on Pinterest. Enjoy!

Spring Color Preview

We are recovering from a gigantic mega-storm here in KC (and 33 other states…) and I am trying to keep focused on the hope of Spring. I feel like the weather mocked me last Saturday when the temp in OK was in the 60s. That makes this storm even more devastating! There have been some delicious high-points to these past two snow days though. My dad (a junior high teacher in NC) called Tuesday morning in the middle of his class and asked how we were doing and how much snow we had. I told him, and then he sent me on a mission to make a snowman on our porch and picture-message it to him so the whole class could see! He said, “Okay, kids, on 3 tell Deanna how excited we are to see the snowman!” It was adorable! They all cheered and hollered and Nate and I set off on our mission to create a little snowman. The snow wouldn’t stick together, though, so we ended up with more of a snow-mound named Gary…

His eyes were made from cranberries, and, as you can see in this picture, his right eye is having trouble holding itself together.

Anyhow, I’ve been focusing on spring to get me through these cold days. Thank goodness Pantone released their Spring 2011 palette and 2011 color of the year. Here’s a preview:

The colors included are…
FIRST ROW (1) PANTONE 18-2120: Honeysuckle, (2) PANTONE 15-4825: Blue Curacao, (3) PANTONE 16-1349: Coral Rose, (4) PANTONE 14-0941: Beeswax, (5) PANTONE 14-6324: Peapod,

SECOND ROW (6) PANTONE 18-4039: Regatta, (7) PANTONE 18-1235: Russet, (8) PANTONE 12-1206: Silver Peony, (9) PANTONE 15-3817: Lavender, (10) PANTONE 15-4502: Silver Cloud. (Source: here)

My favorite by far is the honeysuckle pink. Not sure why, but I’ve been really feeling the bright pink these days! Luckily that one is the…*drumroll please*…PANTONE 2011 COLOR OF THE YEAR! And this picture (found on here on Pinterest) is the perfect example of just how fabulous it is!

In fact, this picture even has the peapod, the honeysuckle (a slightly lighter version), the silver peony, the regatta and hints of the beeswax. While I respect the taste of PANTONE, I’m seriously digging this incredible spring color palette from Creature Comforts:

Ez explains happening upon this color combo: “I looked across the stormy sea of my desktop and spotted four objects looking back at me in the loveliest color palette…”  Check ’em out!

Isn’t it beautiful? Oooh! I’m so excited for SPRING! Enjoy your time while it lasts, Gary the Snow Mound!
